12 Week Online Access + 3 Hour Specialized Comfort Measures and Pain Management Class
= A New Kind of Prenatal Education!
This childbirth class is a combination of home learning through our Online Childbirth Education program, plus a single 3 hour in-class session to practice techniques, ask questions, and engage with an expert Prenatal Classes Toronto instructor, other expectant women and their partners/support persons.
Instead of sitting through a lecture style program where topics are covered and videos are watched in a group, this is a “flipped classroom” model where clients go through the online prenatal class online at home, replacing the traditional “lecture” portion of the class, before attending the practice portion of the class.
The at home Online Prenatal Class portion of the class covers all aspects of pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum including anatomy and physiology, the labour and birth process, signs and stages of labour, options for pain management, common complications, promoting positive communication with your care-giver and information regarding early newborn care and breastfeeding before discharge from the hospital, or before the midwives leave (in case of home birth).
The in-class portion of the Prenatal Class involves fun discussions and we will practice the techniques that will make you more comfortable during your labour such as breathing methods, massage/light touch, labor and birth positions (including how to use the birth ball), relaxation, visualization and more.
This program is for those of you who are planning a natural birth as well as those who plan to use an epidural. With either option, you must learn the important techniques to help you cope during early and active labor, before an epidural is an option. Many of the techniques may also be used while you are in bed with your epidural. For those planning a natural birth, additional online materials will help with additional preparation and practice at home.
This class is designed for pregnant women and their partners/support persons who are willing to read and prepare before the on-site class.
You will receive an email shortly after registration, that will have your access code for the online portion of the course. This class will be accessible to you for 12 weeks. Your home learning is self-paced and may be done over several hours or days. You will also have full access to a Prenatal Classes Toronto childbirth educator who will answer any questions that you might have about the course material. Be sure to register early enough so you have time to study before the in-class session.
If you or your partner is not interested in reading on your own then you should consider one of our full Group classes which your instructor will cover all the information in class.
This class is designed for one pregnant person and their non-pregnant partner or support person.
Price includes access to the online class, our in-class handouts, access to your own childbirth educator to answer your questions, and a 2.5-hour Comfort Measures and Pain Management class where you learn what you need to know to help you manage your labour and birth.
Note: Some insurance plans will reimburse you for a completed childbirth education class. Be sure to check with your insurance company to see if you qualify.
